We have moved! Into town!

So sorry about all the lack of postings but, I got a job working at a Lumber Mill. We bought a house in town, sold all of our animals, except 6 chickens. So I guess this is the end of our country homesteading and the beginning of our urban homesteading. I do love that I work 5 minutes from my home and the kids can walk to the schools, I also love that instead of seven people living in a 900 sq.ft. mobile home that now we live in a two-story 2400 sq.ft. home. Its pretty nice. I do miss my milk cow, and my goats. Maybe one day we'll move back to the country but for now we are comfortable.
I am still going to garden, and keep chickens, can my produce, and try to only spend the $50 a week on groceries.
So look for my next post! Talk to you all soon. May God bless you!

Apologies

So sorry I haven't been posting lately. It's been very busy around our place.
The greenhouse
I built a temporary greenhouse, getting a little help with the walls from the boys, but I even put on the roof by myself. It is a 24 ft. x 20 ft.

The greenhouse now

Meat chickens (Cornish roasters)
We processed half of our 26 meat birds before we got rained out. A total of forty pounds of chicken in the freezer.

Our geese
They should be here today, we are getting six mated geese, 4 will be going into the freezer and 2 will be our breeders.

Piglets
We are getting two piglets this weekend they are York/Hampshire wieners. We will be getting another next month for breeding.

Sorry for the lack of postings

It has been quite busy around here lately, our daughter started ballet and our sons wrestling.

I'll try to give you a quick update.

I bought a milk cow.

Our Nigerian Dwarf kidded.

I sold two of my goats to pay for our milking cow.
Our rabbit had her kits.

I started my plants for the garden.
We have started to do a little spring cleaning just very hard to do when it snows every other day.
We loaded our larder more, but I don't think it'll be enough till the garden starts producing.
Next weekend our greenhouse should be going up. If not next weekend then the following one.
I still have chicks to get, a new chicken/rabbit building to build, and strawberries boxes to build yet.
I am still waiting on my potato tubers, my indoor citrus trees, and my strawberry roots to arrive in the mail.
The root cellar will be a work in progress as soon as I can work the ground.

Homemade bread or dinner rolls.

2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/3 cup honey or raw sugar
2 teaspoons sea salt
2 cups warm water
8 tablespoons lard, tallow, or butter
6-7 cups flour
2-4 tablespoons butter for brushing after baking

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, mix honey, salt, 2 c. water and fat. Stir in yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour to form a soft dough. Turn out and knead, until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and cover and let rise for about 2 hours. Punch down and divide into 2 portions and form into loaves. Let rise until higher than the pans (about 2 hours). Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool for ten minutes, rub butter all over the tops. Place pans on sides until loosened. Remove bread from pans and cool completely on racks.
